Who Should Attend GreenCO BMP Training?

Green Industry professionals interested in improving their knowledge and understanding of water conservation and water quality protection practices should participate in the BMP Training Program. The program is ideal for individuals who have already obtained industry-specific certification, but who would like a review of water quality and water conservation BMPs. The course is also useful as a basic introduction to these practices; however, to successfully complete the written exam and obtain the BMP Training Certificate, broad industry-wide knowledge is required.

What Should I Expect from the BMP Training Program Exam?

The exam is comprised of 100 questions covering the 31 BMPs in the GreenCO BMP Manual. Although the exam is an open-book test using the manual, a strict 2-hour time limit will be enforced. Therefore, participants should thoroughly study the manual prior to the exam, as well as bring their manual to the exam. In order to receive the BMP Training Certificate, participants must receive a passing score of 75% and attend the BMP training class. Participants who do not pass the exam may retake the exam for $25.00.

Why Did GreenCO Develop This Program?

Following the initial release of the GreenCO BMP Manual, the Green Industry was hit hard by drought. Although the drought has been difficult for many, it has also been a wake-up call for Green Industry professionals and communities alike. Everyone is recognizing that water conservation must become a way of life in Colorado all of the time, not just during drought. In order to provide increased training in water conservation practices, GreenCO developed this program to train and recognize Green Industry professionals who know and practice these BMPs

How is the BMP Training Program Related to Industry Certification Programs?

The BMP training program reinforces many of the practices taught in greater depth in industry-specific certification programs. This course is not a certification program; instead, it reinforces or supplements water-wise industry practices and provides an opportunity for broader training across the Green Industries. Check with your industry group to determine whether this class qualifies for continuing education credits for your industry certification.

How Can I Attend the BMP Training Course and Obtain the 2004 GreenCO BMP Manual?

The BMP training course will be offered at the annual ProGreen Expo and at other industry events listed periodically on this page. A hard copy of the GreenCO BMP Manual is available for an additional $40.00 by contacting GreenCO at (303)973-4026 or emailing brenda.obrien@comcast.net. The manual can also be downloaded from the GreenCO website (www.greenco.org) at no charge.
